The Launch of PMTCT Services in Mauritania

Mauritania is posed to launch its 1st site for the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) on 1 st December. A National policy on PMTCT has been developed. Sebkha providers have been trained.

A Specific Law on HIV/AIDS

Antoinette lost everything when the husband died of AIDS; her job, her claim to her husband's property. She lives with AIDS herself and brings up 6 children on her own; she felt that she had no chance to survive. There is at present NO law to cater for HIV/AIDS pandemic to protect her rights or those or many like her. The Network of African People Living With HIV/AIDS in West Africa (NAP+WA) have been playing a leading role in facilitating efforts with other PLHA associations in Ghana, Niger, Mali, Guinea, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Guinea Bissau and Mauritania . The Caravan Road Show

A group of 20 people traveled the dusty roads of their region as part of a caravan promoting the HIV awareness campaign. By the end it had shared its messages of tolerance and support in 23 towns reaching over 23,000 people. The caravan was staffed by 20 people representing each of the 6 countries.
