 CAMEROON BAPTIST CONVENTION HEALTH BOARD (CBCHB)

The Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Board (CBCHB) is the health care branch of the Cameroon Baptist Convention, a faith-based, not for profit organization loosely affiliated with the North American Baptist Conference and the US Baptist General Conference. The CBCHB has been operating since 1954 and the health board was established in 1975 in Cameroon.

CBCHB is now comprised of BBH (265 beds), MBH (245 beds), 21 Integrated Health Centers (IHCs), and 40 Primary Health Centers (PHCs). Programs and services include: the Private Training School for Health Personnel, the Life Abundant Primary Health Care Program, 2 schools for the blind, a school for the deaf, a leprosy rehabilitation center that makes its own prosthetic limbs, environmental engineering, a projects department, a micro-enterprise loan program, ophthalmology and optometry, physical therapy, pharmacy, laboratory, X-ray, ultrasound, dental, a surgical residency (affiliated with the Pan-African College of Christian Surgeons), infection control (includes counseling and free post-exposure prophylaxis to employees exposed to HIV), and a Center of Excellence for HIV/AIDS training for the entire nation.

In addition to the day to day activities of the health board, the CBCHB has developed a PMTCT Training Manual and two videos in English and French for training counselors and for educating patients about HIV/AIDS.

Their focus for AWARE-HIV/AIDS includes the following:

•  Strengthen the capacity of CBCHB program to serve as national and regional training resource in        the areas of HIV/AIDS (PMTCT)

•  Train decision makers, managers, and providers in the area of PMTCT

•  Showcase the PMTCT work by CBCHB in the region covered by AWARE-HIV/AIDS
